The idea for our new restaurant started in early 2005 when the new Wembley Junction Retail Park was being built. Just opposite the main entrance of Wembley Stadium, two new restaurants were to be built in Engineers Way. The Directors of Moore Spice (1966) secured Unit 2 to fit out as an Indian Restaurant and Bar.
Once the Restaurant plans had been finalised and agreed, the first work started on the building in February 2006, we set out to install a mezzanine floor, that now holds 80 diners and also dig out the shallow basement area to make it a suitable lower ground floor bar and private function and conference area that can now hold 150 people. Overcoming a number of set backs and changes to plans and employing a team of over 50 builders, carpenters and electricians, our restaurant was finally officially opened on 18th October 2006 by Sir Geoff Hurst, the famous England footballer who score a hat trick in the 1966 world cup final at Wembley.
The naming of the restaurant Moore Spice (1966) is to honour the most important event in the history of Wembley Stadium. England Winning the World Cup and Bobby Moore the captain of that 1966 soccer team, as we are located so close to the stadium and the events of that historical day on 30 July 1966. We have therefore made connections with the Bobby Moore Fund for Cancer Research and are pleased to support this charity with special events.
Displayed around the restaurant and bar is a collection of memorabilia and pictures of Bobby Moore and the players from the 1966 World Cup winning team, many of which are hand signed by the players themselves.
As a secondary theme we wished to recognise the other great event held at Wembley Stadium, the Live Aid Concert 1985. So you will also find on the upper mezzanine floor, now the ‘Live Aid Lounge’ a lounge area with a superb view overlooking the stadium, on the walls autographed memorabilia and pictures of some of the artists that performed at the Wembley Stadium charity concert in 1985.
Please enjoy your visit to Moore Spice (1966) and feel free to view the items on display throughout the restaurant.
